Cattle breeders call for Grazing Reserve Commission

The National Association of Miyetti Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to establish Grazing Reserve Commission to coordinate the movement of pastoralists in the country.
The National President of the association, Alhaji Bello Adamu, made the call during interview with newsmen in Gombe on Wednesday.
Adamu said the commission, when established, would go a long way in restricting the movement of the pastoralists from one place to another while searching for greener pastures for their livestock.
He said: “We want a commission that will coordinate our activities.
“We will remain in one place if the commission is established.
“It is also one way for us to benefit from the dividends of democracy.”
Adamu said his members’ movement from one place to another was not in their interest because of being exposed to so many dangers.
Adamu recalled the abduction of 40 Fulani women in Borno State on Monday to buttress his point on the vulnerability of the pastoralists.
He appealed to the Federal Government to provide security for members of his association and their families to check unwarranted attacks on them.
He said: “We want to come under one umbrella.
“Our lives, particularly that of women, are under threat without it.”
