Borno immunises 200,000 children in 11 LGAs

No fewer than 200,000 have been immunised by the Borno Primary Health Care Management Agency under its routine immunisation free medical outreach.

The Executive Director of the agency, Dr. Sule Mele, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Mele explained that children between few months and one year have benefited from the exercise in 11 local government areas of the state.

Mele said its Integrated Primary Health Care Team was working in about 311 electoral wards to ensure availability of the relevant services to meet the demand of such persons.

Besides, he disclosed that the agency had established about 150 functional health facilities across 11 local government areas of the state.

He said: “We are scaling up our immunisation to 43 wards of three local government areas, which include Askira Uba, Chibok and Hawul.

“By 2017, we are expected to cover up to 17 more local government areas.

“However, the challenges are that we don’t have the health facilities in new camps.

“Some of the areas are not accessible by our health workers.

“However, we have concluded plans to establish mobile health facilities in Dikwa, Munguno and Ngala to see how we can set up call chain where the health needs of the IDPs will be met.

“Another problem is the outreach.

“As you know, vaccines are stored in very cool place, which requires a certain temperature.

“So refrigeration is another problem.

“The vaccines are kept in a cool temperature, which usually requires a certain temperature, which is mostly with refrigeration facility.”
