The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has thrown his weight behind the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari, urging him not to relent.
Oba Adetona said this in his remarks at a reception he held for President Buhari on Monday at his Ijebu Ode palace.
He said: “We have been following your policies and activities.
“We want to tell you that we support you.
“It is said that if you don’t kill corruption, corruption will kill us.
“We don’t want corruption to kill us.
“Please continue your fight against corruption.”
The revered monarch said he was confident that President Buhari will right the wrongs of the past.
He said: “We believe, Mr. President, that you will lay a solid foundation for a better Nigeria.
“We believe you will create a country where everyone will live in harmony.
“Where there will be peace and unity among the people.”
Earlier, President Buhari, who arrived around 6pm, apologised for his late arrival.
He ascribed it to the diplomatic protocols accorded the visiting Italian Prime Minister, which made him to leave Abuja around 3.30pm.
The Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in his own short remarks, thanked all the personalities who had waited patiently for the President.
Amosun said: “There are lots of activities lined up at the state capital, but it was President Buhari who insisted that he must come to see Kabiyesi Awujale, that he cannot come to Ogun State without seeing Kabiyesi.”
The reception was attended by about eight former governors of Ogun State, 51 traditional rulers from Ijebuland, Otunbas, Chiefs and eminent personalities, among whom were Dr. Mike Adenuga, Oba Otudeko, Otunba Subomi Balogun, Senator Lekan Mustapha, Chief Rasak Okoya, Sir Adebutu Kensington, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade and Prof. Olufemi Bamiro.
