Newcastle midfielder, Sammy Ameobi, is to spend the new season on loan at Sky Bet Championship Cardiff.
Press Association Sport understands the 23-year-old has signed a new contract at St. James’ Park, with his existing deal drawing to a close at the end of last month, and then finalised his switch to South Wales in a bid to prove to new head coach Steve McClaren he has a future with his home-town club.
Ameobi, the younger brother of former Magpies striker, Shola, has made 67 senior appearances for the club, only 29 of them starts, and while he undoubtedly has talent, is yet to provide convincing evidence that he can hold down a regular first-team place on Tyneside.
The former England Under-21 international had a spell on loan in the Championship at Middlesbrough during the 2012-13 campaign, making nine appearances and scoring one goal.
