As the 2015 general elections draw closer, the Niger State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, on Sunday called on the electorates in the state to report any problem relating to the collection of the Permanent Voter Cards to the state government.
Aliyu said while speaking at a Maulud celebration organized by Tijanniyya Islamic Sect in Minna, that it is the civic responsibility of every citizen to ensure they collect their PVC.
According to him: “Having a PVC is a right and the only tool to elect people who can deliver on campaign promises.”
He added that the state government was prepared to intervene once the electorates alert on any form of challenges that might hinder collection.
He said: “”The turn out in previous elections was low.
“Most registered voters either failed to get their voter cards or refused to come out and exercise their civic duties at the poll.
“Zone B has over 900,000 voters, but only 200,000 of them bothered to vote in the last election.”
Aliyu also urged the people of the state to respect the result of a valid election and accept the outcome as an act ordained by God.
He said it is the civic responsibility of people of the state to support those who will emerge winners to foster peace.
While calling on the people to eschew religious and ethnic sentiments so as to vote strictly based on a candidates ability to deliver campaign promises, Aliyu said his government was committed to guaranteeing the freedom of religious practices in line with constitutional provision.
Meanwhile, at the Maulud celebration, Aliyu announced the donation of N5 million on behalf of the state government and N2 million personal donation to the Tijanniyya Islamic Sect for the propagation of their faith.
The Tijanniyya Sect leader, Shiekh Nafiyu Shuka-Kafuta, commended the governor for his prompt assistance to the group at all time.
Shuka-Kafuta said the kind donations will be used to foster peace and collective development in the state through preaching religious tolerance.
