Redeployment: Transferred officers have complied – Police

The Lagos State Police Command has said all the officers redeployed out of the Command had since resumed in their new duty posts across the country.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Joseph Offor, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on compliance with the order of mass transfer of the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase.

Arase had on October 23 ordered the mass transfer of senior officers, especially from Lagos State.

Those affect were those who had spent more than five years in a command.

Sequel to the order, 870 officers, mostly Superintendents and Chief Superintendents of Police, who were occupying the office of Divisional Police Officers, were transferred out of Lagos State.

NAN, however, learnt that some of the redeployed officers, particularly to the northern states, allegedly refused to report at their new duty posts.

They were said to be reaching out to some influential persons to ensure the cancellation of the posting.

But Offor said all the officers redeployed to Lagos Command had resumed as Area Commanders and DPOs among other positions.

He said: “All the officers posted out of Lagos State Police Command have been released to their various postings to other states.

“All area commands and divisions are now being manned by various officers assigned to take charge over them.”

In another development, the Command has removed some Armoured Personnel Carriers from some strategic points for either servicing or to other areas of urgent need.

The spokesman said where an APC was removed, more patrol vehicles and men had been deployed to cover them.

Offor said: “Some of our APCs were undergoing repairs, while some have been deployed to other areas of need in the state.

“We have areas where the APCs are needed more due to their volatile nature.

“The ones under repairs will be back soon.”

NAN observed that some of APCs, including the one stationed at the National Stadium, Surulere, were removed, while more armed policemen and patrol vehicles were seen in the place.
