Dr. Segun Adegoke, a Dentist, has warned beneficiaries of artificial ‘golden-crown-teeth’ to desist from it or risk of contacting infections and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
Adegoke, the Head of Dental Department of the Ondo state Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa, gave the warning while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
He said that such could be infected with infections like Septicaemia that could affect their blood stream and lead to death, and Ludwig’s Angina, which could also cause respiratory failure and lead to HIV infection.
Adegoke explained that most artificial teeth were fixed by quacks using unsterilised instruments and under unhygienic conditions.
He said this might give room for food particles to be deposited in the teeth cavities of beneficiaries and as such, could cause their teeth to decay.
Such a development could lead to teeth extraction in the future, which could be very painful, Adegoke said.
The quacks believe the number of crowns they fix on every client’s mouth would determine what they would make financially, the expert noted.
Adegoke, however, warned the public to be cautious when embarking on this exercise.
They should patronise registered dentists with modern equipment operating in hygienic conditions or in a general hospital if they should do it, he advised.
