Employee charged with defrauding FCMB of N1m
The police in Lagos on Monday charged an employee of the First City Monument Bank Plc, Afolabi Oladapo, with defrauding the bank of N1 million.
Oladapo, 26, appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court on a count charge.
The accused, who works with the Park and Shop, Lekki branch of FCMB, lives at Block 94, Flat 4, Jakande Estate, Lekki, Lagos.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Ignatius Okeke, told the court that Oladapo committed the crime during working hours on May 12, at the branch.
Okeke said that Oladapo failed to balance his account at the end of work on the said date.
He said the branch’s Head of Operations, Bukola John, discovered the fraud the following day.
“All efforts by the bank to trace the money from Oladapo’s records proved abortive, and the bank had no other choice than to report the matter to the police,” Okeke said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 312(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
If convicted, Oladapo may face 15 years jail term, according to the section.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Y. R. Pinheiro, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to June 13 for mention.
