A Lagos lawmaker, Tunde Braimoh, has commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s resolve to ensure that the 2017 budget reflected the demands by the people at the constituency stakeholders’ fora.
Braimoh, the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Lagos State House of Assembly, gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.
Braimoh noted that the sovereignty belonged to the people and that political office holders were operating the authority delegated to them.
According to him, the second edition of the stakeholders’ meeting held simultaneously across the 40 state constituencies on October 5, and was meant to feel the pulse of the people.
He said that such had become imperative ahead of the preparation, submission and passage of the 2017 appropriation bill.
Braimoh said: “Governor Ambode is known by all and sundry as a listening governor and his interest in the wellbeing of the people cannot be faulted.
“He has promised to ensure that the demands of the people gathered across the 40 constituencies when we engaged our constituents in would be part of the next budget.
“We must ensure that people are not angry with us. Things will get better if we carry the people along.”
Braimoh, who said that the Assembly was committed to the wellbeing of the residents, urged the people to cooperate with the government.
He said the 40 lawmakers were enacting laws that would make the society a better place to live in and by doing oversight function to ensure the tax payers’ money were judiciously used.
The lawmaker urged the governor to work on everything raised by the people as far as available resources could go.
He also urged political office holders in the state to put the people first in all their activities.
NAN reports that the recent constituency engagement marked the second by the 8th House of Assembly in the state.
