Jaji: Death toll rises, as Air Commodore remains in coma

The death toll from Sunday’s double bomb attack on the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State has risen to 15, just as information filtered in that a senior military staff of the institution, an Air Commodore, is still in coma following injuries he sustained during the attack.
The Kaduna State Governor, Ibrahim Yakowa, confirmed that the death toll from the bomb attack had risen to 15 on Monday when he visited the site of the blast at Saint Andrew’s Protestant Church, while a source said that the Director of Air of the AFCSC, Air Commodore Alechenu Ekagbo, was still in coma as at the time the governor visited the institution.
Ekagbo is said to be receiving treatment at the 44 Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna.
Ekagbo was reported to be in his room, close to the church, when the suicide bombers attacked.
He was said to have been severely injured, leading to an initial speculation that he had died.
During Yakowa’s visit, news men were prevented from seeing the scene of the blast.
But Yakowa described the development as saddening.
He said: “The bombing of a church within a premier institution like the AFCSC is a wake-up call to all security agencies within the country to continue to sit down so as to fashion out a solution on how to curb the incidents of bombing or terrorism and all stakeholders have to now come together to find a solution to frequent bombing or killing of innocent people in Nigeria.”
