The Congress, in a statement on Monday by its National President, Dr Niyi Sunmonu, described the initiative as a good development that signaled a renewed attempt to address some of the long-standing challenges faced by academic and non-academic personnel in the nation’s institutions.

Sunmonu, however, commended the Federal Government for the release of the N50 billion for Earned Academic Allowances for university staff.
CONUA, in a protest letter dated October 14, 2024, and signed by its National President, Dr. Niyi Sunmonu, addressed its concerns to the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman.
The Chairman, CONUA, University of Abuja Chapter, Prof. Abdul Buba, said this when the group paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, in Abuja on Friday.
The Chairman, UNIBEN CONUA, Ishaq Osagie-Eweka, while speaking with newsmen in Benin, described the strike as a one-man decision.
The nine executive members, who emerged unopposed, were inaugurated by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Prof. David Ogungbile, at Auditorium 2, Humanities Block in the campus.
CONUA made this known, in a statement it issued Tuesday, expressing disappointment with the FG for withholding the salaries of its members, stressing that the government was fully aware that its members neither called for nor participated in the said strike.
The new unions- the Congress for Nigerian University Academics and the Nigeria Association of Medical and Dental Academics -received letters of recognition recently during a ceremony at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja.
Sunmonu said this in a statement he issued after its National Executive Council meeting and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Lagos.
The Chairman of a faction of ASUU in the institution, Congress of University Academics, Dr. Issa Abdulraheem, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Ilorin, Kwara State.
