Supreme Court fixes Aug 27 to hear PDP/ACN appeal against Mimiko

Following protests against the September 24 date fixed for hearing of the appeal of the Peoples Democratic Party and Action Congress of Nigeria against the election of Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, the Supreme Court will now hear the case on August 27, 2013.
The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mariam Aloma Mukhtar, gave the new date following a protest to her office that the September 24 date falls outside the mandatory 60 days to determine the election petition appeals.
The appeals were filed by PDP’s Chief Olusola Oke and his ACN counterpart, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu.
Both parties are challenging the results of the election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission that the Labour Party candidate and incumbent governor, Mimiko, won.
