The Senate on Wednesday debunked media reports that N37 billion was released for the renovation of the National Assembly complex.
The clarification was sequel to the media reports of the leakage of the National Assembly Complex roof during heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
It was reported that by some section of media that N37 billion was approved for the renovation of the Parliament building.
But coming under Point of Order, the Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Abdullahi Sabi, faulted the reportage of the incidence, explaining that only N9 billion was approved and up till now a dime has not been released for renovation of the Complex.
Senator Sabi said the report was done to denigrate the parliament, adding that the leakage did not stop the plenary session and the rain did not enter the Senate’s Chamber.
Responding to the point of order raised by Sabi, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, defended the reporter of the TV station in the Senate because she aware of what is going on, adding that it must have been changed in her office.
