Governor Abdul’aziz Yari of Zamfara State says President Muhammadu Buhari deserves to be reelected for a second term and needs support from all Nigerians.
Yari made the assertion on Friday while addressing the All Progressives Congress supporters at Abubakar Tunau Model Primary School polling unit in Talata-Mafara town, Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of the state.
The governor said President Buhari deserved support of all Nigerians, irrespective of party affiliation, considering his good mission to move the country forward.
According to him, when Buhari became president of Nigeria in 2015, he met several challenges that he never expected, but within a short period of time, moved to address them.
He said: “Therefore, it is our responsibility to vote for Buhari for a second term to continue with his good mission for Nigeria.
“We are in Abubakar Tunau Primary School polling unit in Talata-Mafara town, under Galadima ward, for presidential primaries of our great party, the APC, to show our support to President Buhari’s candidature to contest for a second term.
“Even though, Buhari is the only presidential candidate of our party, the direct primary was organised to confirm the support of Nigerians for him.
“I am happy with the large turnout of APC members here in Talata-Mafara, and I am impressed with the peaceful conduct of our members.”
The governor urged people of the state to remain calm and continue to support government in maintaining peace and stability in the state.
He also urged youths to embrace peace and avoid any act of violence or thuggery in the name politics.
Yari said: “I am happy with the conduct of our youths today; since we came here, I have not seen anybody with weapons. This shows that our youths are listening to our calls.
“The issue of politics is not a do or dies affair; it is an issue of election. Anybody who has interest in any political position let him try his luck; it is a matter of people.
“On Sunday, we will be coming back here for the governorship primary; I urge you to give similar support as you are giving today.”
An APC chieftain in the state, Alhaji Sha’aya Sarkin-Fawa, told NAN at the venue that the Talata-Mafara local government is a strong home of President Muhammadu Buhari and APC.
Fawa said: “We are, therefore, ever ready to support Baba Buhari and all the candidates.”
Alhaji Sama’Ia Yusuf and Hajiya Halima Musa, two other APC members who also spoke to NAN in Talata-Mafara, expressed their happiness with President Buhari’s intention to contest for a second term.
APC members were also seen casting their votes peacefully at other venues of the APC presidential primaries visited by NAN in Gusau, Bungudu, Maru and Maradun local government areas.
