The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Lagos State on Wednesday handed over 1,977 jerry-cans of Petroleum Motor Spirit it recovered from suspected vandals to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
The Lagos State Commandant, Tajudeen Balogun, while handing over the items to an official of the NNPC at the Badagry area of the state, said the recovery was due to the surveillance from its Marine Unit.
According to him, the marine unit is under the Corps anti-vandal section.
Balogun said: “The petroleum products were recovered on August 19 from suspected oil vandals who were intercepted by the officers of the corps on the high sea in Badagry.
“The suspects fled away on sighting our men.
“The corps is handing over 1,977 kegs of 30 litres each of PMS to the NNPC.
“The other items recovered by the corps were two engine boats.”
Balogun appealed to members of the public to give useful information on activities of oil vandals in their environment.
He, however, said that activities of vandals and smugglers would not be tolerated and called for continuous collaboration among security agencies in ensuring safety of lives and property.
The NNPC official who received the items declined comment, apparently because he was not competent to speak on the issue.
