Coach Olugbenga Ogunbote says Rangers International FC of Enugu will push for the trophy on May 26, in the final of the Enugu State FA Cup against Crime Busters FC.
Ogunbote told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Enugu that failure to win the trophy on Saturday would be termed a failure by the club’s stakeholders.
He said: “Now that we have reached the final, our participation in the national level is assured, but our first challenge for now is to win the state final.
“Whenever you are playing against any club at the state level, you have to up your game because they always want to prove a point.
“This is what we have been experiencing right from our first match of the ongoing state FA Cup.’’
He said that their opponents in the final will like to take the game to them in order dethrone them as the state champions.
Ogunbote said: “Having this at the back of our minds, we are not going to leave anything to chance in winning the trophy.
“Failure to win this year’s FA Cup, which is the first for many of us will not speak well of Rangers’ current squad.”
In the same vein, Norbert Okolie, the club’s spokesperson, called on the players to open the floodgate of trophies in the current season with the FA Cup.
Okolie said: “We have been winning this trophy for years and not winning it this year will not go down well with the club’s authority and the teeming supporters.’’
Okolie added that Rangers could lose a friendly match against any club in the state, but not in a match like the FA Cup.
He told NAN that the players had promised to utilise all opportunities to ensure that they retained the trophy which was more like their birthright.
