The National Emergency Management Agency and Niger State Emergency Management Agency have joined forces to respond to the dynamite explosion that occurred in a residential area of Sabon Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.
This was disclosed in a press statement by NEMA on Monday.
The incident, as confirmed by the Niger State Police Command, occurred in the early hours of Sunday at about 7:30 am.
Spokesperson, Niger State Police Command and a Superintendent of Police, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed this in Minna on Sunday.
Abiodun said that the explosion was reportedly caused by dynamites kept in the area by a suspect for mining activity.
He said the blast affected about 12 houses in the area and caused widespread destruction.
He added that the victim, identified as Fatima Sadauki, lost her life in the explosion, while the six injured persons were rushed to General Hospital Kainji for medical attention.

Meanwhile, NEMA has been alerted and is collaborating with the NSEMA to provide an emergency response to the incident.
“The exploded dynamite was reported to have been kept by a local artisan miner in the wrecked apartment that he had rented for his workers.
“Some residents of the area were affected by the incident and property was destroyed.
“Meanwhile, NEMA Minna Operation Office and the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) are working together in response to the incident,” NEMA stated.
