The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, has ordered the immediate arrest and detention of two Assistant Commissioners of Police over the disappearance of two policemen.
The two ASPs were detained along with two other policemen.
One of the ASPs has been identified as Ejeh.
The drama of the arrest of the two ASPs and the disappearance of the two policemen started after one Corporal Danjuma Ibrahim, attached to Olosan Police Station, Mushin, Lagos State, lost his AK47 rifle at a road block.
According to a police source, after losing his rifle, Ibrahim was detained by his immediate boss, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Olosan Police Station.
In the night, Ibrahim took permission from the recording officer, on night duty, an Inspector, that he wanted to go and pray.
The Inspector allowed Ibrahim out of the cell and since then no one had seen nor heard from Ibrahim.
When it was midnight, the night duty Inspector realized that Ibrahim was not coming back, he too took off, telling his other colleagues that he won’t come back to duty until he finds Ibrahim and brings him back.
Another police source explained how the rifle got missing.
He said: “The two ASPs, a sergeant and two corporals were all at the road block.
“One of the corporals is Danjuma Ibrahim and they are all from Olosan Division.
“They were at a road block and placed themselves at different axis of the road.
“Suddenly, Danjuma ran to one of the ASPs to complain that his rifle fell into a car, which he flagged down, but the driver had refused to heed.
“He said he had attempted to hit the driver’s side windscreen with his rifle, but it fell into the car and the driver didn’t even stop.
“The policemen entered their patrol van and pursued the driver, but it was already too late.
“They couldn’t catch up with him.
“The rifle had 20 rounds of ammunition.”
The team went to report the incident to the DPO, who ordered the detention of Danjuma.
The DPO came the following morning to discover that Danjuma and the night duty inspector had bolted.
The DPO had taken the rest of the team members to the Commander of Area D, Mushin, who, after interrogating them, took them to Manko.
After listening to the team, the CP had ordered the detention of all the policemen at the road block that fateful day.
“Presently now, four policemen are in detention over the missing rifle, while two are missing. The CP said he would not release them until they return the missing rifle,” said a police source.
