The Federal High Court, Abuja, has adjourned the ongoing trial of former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, and others on charges of recruitment fraud until July 4.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission filed an 11-count charge against Moro, Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia, a former Permanent Secretary in the ministry, and Femi Alayebami, a Deputy Director in the ministry.
The other defendant is Drexel Tech. Nigeria Limited, the firm that carried out the ill-fated Nigeria Immigration Service, recruitment on behalf of the ministry.
When the matter was called, a prosecution witness, Aliyu Sufyana, told the court how $641,000 was paid into his account by Drexel Tech. Nigeria Limited, one of the defendants in the matter.
Sufyana, a bureau de change operator, said that upon receiving the dollars, he gave the money to one Biodun.
The witness who gave his testimony through an interpreter, also told the court that at the time of the transaction, the exchange rate was N158 to one dollar.
He also told the court that he did not know any of the defendants in the dock.
The Nigeria Immigration Service conducted recruitment on March 15, 2014, that led to the death of 15 applicants, while several others sustained injuries.
