The House of Representatives Thursday adopted the report of its Committee on Aviation that probed the purchase of two armoured BMW Li Series cars by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), enjoining President Goodluck Jonathan to disengage the Minister Of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah from the Cabinet.
In the report, the committee contended that the embattled minister contravened the Appropriation Act 2013 by procuring many cars totaling N643 million.
The purchase of two BMW cars in the sum of N255 million had sparked outrage across the land because the amount is believed to have been grossly inflated and the procurement done without following due process.
Sequel to the dust raised, the House of Representatives mandated its Committee on Aviation to investigate the matter with a view to determining whether due process was followed.
Adopting the report after consideration, the lawmakers posited that the minister contravened the Appropriation Act having exceeded the ministerial approval limit of N100 million by the purchase of 54 vehicles at N643 million.
According to the report, due process was not followed in the procurement of the two BMW cars even as the House adopted the recommendations that the NCAA should terminate all transactions and loan agreements on the matter forthwith.
The House also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the discrepancies in the chassis number DW68032 of one of the vehicles inspected by the committee.
