The Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution urging Governor Akinwumi Ambode to construct a flyover at Pen Cinema, Agege to connect Oba Ogunji Agunbiade Road with Iju Road.
The House said the flyover would help to reduce gridlock in the area.
Moving the motion, Hon. Oluyinka Ogundimu (APC-Agege ll) noted that the traffic situation in the area had caused loss of productive man hours and health hazards.
Ogundimu also said the gridlock had affected economic activities in the area.
He said: “The absence of a fly-over in the area creates a lot of hardships and suffering for motorists and residents and this has negative socio-economic implications.
“Motorists and commuters who ply Agege axis and Pen Cinema experience daily chaotic traffic jams, leading to incessant accidents, loss of lives and productive hours.”
According to Ogundimu, the Agege-Ifako Model City Plan provides for a flyover.
Contributing to the motion, Hon. Bisi Yusuf (APC-Alimoso l) said hoodlums had taken advantage of the traffic situation rob motorists and commuters.
Hon. Adefunmilayo Tejuosho (Mushin l) said the area with 10 Housing Estates should get urgent government’s attention by providing the bridge.
The Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, noted that as late as 11pm, the area had continued to experience traffic jam.
Obasa said the infrastructure in the area, including roads, were inadequate considering the number of estates and the population.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the House, which began a five-week recess on Thursday, will resume plenary on September 7.
