Governorship debate: Omisore unfit for public office

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the August 9 poll in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, lied again with his claim that he was not contacted for the live radio debate organised for three of the candidates by the International Republican Institute, the state government ha said.
This was the position of the Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the Office of the Governor, which said on Sunday that Omisore again demonstrated his well-known integrity deficit by denying he was not invited by the organisers for the debate.
The Bureau, in a statement by the Director, Semiu Okanlawon, said Omisore’s alibi for not showing up at the debate stood logic on its head.
The IRI, the Bureau insisted, sent Omisore a mail, while officials of all the parties invited, PDP inclusive, were also mandated to ensure prompt arrival of their candidates at the edition for party officials, which held a week before.
The statement signed by Okanlawon said: “For a candidate who believe in the veracity of his wild claims against Aregbesola over alleged capital flight, the so-called debt burden and other frivolous claims he had been making for months now, where else could he have confronted him better than such a golden platform as the debate put together by the International Republican Institute and broadcast live?
“Again, he repeated his uncouth language against Aregbesola wherein he said the Governor’s alleged mental state could make him a target of assault if put together in a debate. But has any of Omisore’s handlers cautioned him to realise such ignominious statement was insulting the collective intelligence of the people?
“In case Omisore has forgotten, in February this year, he was at the same venue of a church programme at Oke Maria in Otan Ayegbaju where he shook hands with Aregbesola and did not express any fear of possible attack.
“How then it would be the venue of an intellectual debate where they were all expected to articulate their prograammes for the people that Aregbesola would attack him?”
Omisore, the statement said, has demonstrated the hollowness of his campaigns against Aregbesola with such puerile alibi for his failure to show up at the IRI debate.
The statement added: “It is clearer to the few remaining doubting Thomases who were still giving him the benefit of the doubt that Omisore lacks vision and preparedness for the office of Governor.
“Aregbesola is too intelligent, informed, and indeed too hot to be confronted by any candidate who clearly demonstrates no knowledge of public administration.
“Omisore and the candidate of the Labour Party Engr. Fatai Akinbade who also failed to come for the debate have by their actions betrayed their emptiness and how unfit they are for the gargantuan job of taking Osun to a greater height.”
