Census: NPC, Army, Police partner for credible result

The Nigeria Army and the Nigerian Police have pledged their support for the National Population Commission to ensure the 2016 census exercise is a huge success.
The Brigade Commander of the 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna, Niger State, Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh, and the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Niger State Police Command, Desire Nsirim, gave their promises on Monday when the Federal Commissioner of the NPC in charge of Niger State, Alhaji Aliyu Datti, paid them advocacy visits in their respective offices.
General Momoh said the military was ready to assist the commission in areas of security to protect enumerators during the exercise.
He advised the commission to avoid playing politics and religion with census.
According to him: “Census is necessary for planning and any country that fails to plan has planned to fail.
“There is need for the commission to check against manipulation of census figures by the elites.
“The NPC must also stop the activities of corrupt people so that it can come out with acceptable census report.”
The Commandant also called on the Commission to stop the use of adhoc staff, insisting that it was better for it to train its workers on ICT so that the commission can graduate from analog to digital in population enumeration.
Datti said the advocacy visit was to solicit the cooperation of security agencies toward the success of the 2016 census.
He expressed satisfaction with the security agencies for their support to the commission, adding that he was happy with the pledges from the Police, Army and the NSCDC to assist the commission in ensuring peaceful conduct of the 2016 census.
