President Muhammed Buhari on Tuesday sought the approval of the National Assembly to appoint 15 Special Advisers.
Already, the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Sun newspapers, Femi Adesina, has been appointed the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, while Garba Shehu was appointed as Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
President Buhari in a letter dated June 2, 2015 and personally signed by him, said the appointment is pursuant to the provision of section 151(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, which grants him the power to appoint special advisers to assist him in the performance of his function.
The letter reads: “Pursuant to the provision of section 151(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, which is to appoint special advisers to assist me in the performance of my function. I write to request for your kind consideration and approval of the distinguish members of Senate of the Federal Republic to appoint fifteen Special Advisers as prescribed in the section 151(2-3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
“While trusting that this exercise will receive the traditional prompt attention of the Senate, please accept, Mr. President, assurance of my highest consideration.”
