The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Osun State governorship election, Gboyega Oyetola, as the winner.
The declaration came after the counting of votes from the rerun held on Thursday and the tallying of the outcome with the result of the initial election on Saturday.
In the rerun election, Oyetola defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and his closest co-contestant, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in all the four local government areas where it was held.
This followed APC’s alliance with the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, in whose strongholds the rerun held.
The rerun was held in Orolu, Osogbo, Ife South and Ife North Local Government Areas.

In all, according to the Chief Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Joseph Fuwape, the APC scored 255,505 votes, while the PDP polled 255,023.
Fuwape, who is the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Akure, said: “That Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
