Breaking: I’m yet to decide on Buhari – Babangida

Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, on Tuesday disclosed that former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, is yet to decide on whether to support the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari or not.
Kalu said his visit to the former Nigerian Military President was to solicit his support for the second term bid of President Buhari, whom he said “deserves a second term”.
Kalu, while speaking to newsmen after a two-hour closed door meeting with Babangida at his Uphill Mansion in Minna, said: “Although, President Babangida’s reaction is Blue and White, but he is thinking about it.
“I have come to have a heart to heart talk with the former President and to convince him why he should allow and support President Buhari to finish his second tenure.
“I am in Minna to campaign for President Buhari because I have seen a lot of Peoples Democratic Party members trooping in to visit IBB and I felt we should not be left behind.
“Although President Babangida’s reaction was non committal, his reaction was blue and white.
“We have discussed and he said he is thinking about it.
“February 16, 2019 is still a long way to go and we will continue talking.
“However, it is a positive reaction.”
Furthermore, Kalu said he has been in and out of the country soliciting for support for President Buhari’s re-election, appealing to Nigerians to give him a second chance as a cohesive nation needs continuity in government.
He said: “President Buhari is already in half time now.
“He has played four years and like you all know, in soccer, you have 90 minutes to play a game.
“Buhari has played only 45 minutes and we are appealing to Nigerians to give him another 45 minutes to play.
“It would make more sense and would be very nice.”
While refuting claims that his campaign for Buhari had to do with his 2023 ambition, Kalu said: “It had nothing to do with the South East of the country getting the presidency in 2023 or his personal ambition of becoming president.
“As you know, 2023 was still a long way.
“But time would tell if I will vie for president or not.”
Also, while speaking on the crises within the All Progressives Congress over nomination of candidates, former Governor Kalu said: “Crisis is part of political development.
“If there is no crisis, there will not be political development.
“Crisis is what makes political development.
“There must be crisis and there must be solution.”
The former Governor and his entourage arrived at Babangida’s Uphill residence at 12.08pm in three black Toyota jeeps and two Hillux vans that had the security personnels.
