Armed bandits riding on motorcycles on Thursday kidnapped no fewer than 50 persons in Bassa community, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The attack, which was confirmed by the Co-convener of Concerned Shiroro Youths, Sani Abubakar Kokki, was carried out out at about 5am.
Said to number about 100, the bandits had a field day, shooting sporadically as they attacked the village.
Some of the villagers were reported to have fled into the forest to avoid being hit by bullets and kidnapped.
Kokki said: “The number of people kidnapped is not yet certain, but all I can say is that so many innocent people were carried away.
“On Tuesday, some other communities in Bassa/Kokki were attacked and a lot of losses were recorded there too.
“Shiroro Local Government Area is in dire need of help from the government at all levels.
“It’s so sad that the people have continued to live at the mercy of the bandits.”
The spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, ASP Abiodun Wasiu, said he was yet to be briefed on the development as at press time.
