Nigerian international, Victor Anichebe, on Saturday led West Bromwich Albion to a heroic display as the Baggies upset the Premier League champions, Manchester United, by 2-1 before their fans at Old Trafford.
United simply couldn’t handle Albion’s offensive quartet of Amalfitano, Stephane Sessegnon, Victor Anichebe and Berahino, who came on as an early substitute for Scott Sinclair.
Albion took the lead through a brilliant individual goal by Amalfitano, only for Wayne Rooney to equalise with a free-kick.
The Baggies didn’t settle for the point and kept pushing forward.
They were rewarded in the 67th minute when Albion’s forwards combined with great effect.
Sessegnon crossed for Anichebe, who rolled the ball into Berahino’s path.
His finish was perfect.
It handed Albion their first ever victory at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Anichebe, a player who struggled to get into Moyes’ Everton side, was clearly not fit.
Albion’s bench were having to make checks on his fitness throughout the second-half yet the striker didn’t give up.
He continually harassed and bullied the United defenders.
When United had possession, the striker would stretch, labour and generally look as if he had nothing left in the tank only to then suddenly pipe up with another valued contribution.
Anichebe and Sessegnon deserved their ovation when they were subbed in the final throes of the game.
