The Akoka Community Development Association, Bariga, Lagos State on July 21, 2018 celebrated excellence and outstanding contributions of 25 notable pillars in the community towards the development and growth of the CDA at its fifth year anniversary held in Akoka, Bariga, Lagos State.
The Akoka CDA Chairman, Segun Adesanya, highlighted that the award ceremony was aimed at rewarding excellence and tremendous contributions in the development and transformation of Akoka by individuals of repute.
These illustrious individual are uncommon professionals of excellence, pace setters and an embodiments of resourceful development initiative in Akoka.
The awardees were indeed beaming with a face of vivacity as it was a pleasant surprise for them to be honored at the event.
Defying the torrential downpour in the early hours of Saturday, the ceremony was well attended by various dignitaries, notably Alhaji T. Quadri, Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Community Matters; and Baale of Isale Akoka, Hon. Rotimi Abiru (Wise Ken).
The Chairman, who funded the award ceremony activities as his brainchild initiative, stressed that since the inception of the CDA and despite the challenges, these pillars stood solidly by him and gave their unflinching support in terms of time, talent and treasures.
Recounting the metamorphic process of the CDA, Adesanya said it faced a lot of opposition from some individuals who didn’t want it registered and wanted to register their own CDA for reasons best known to them, not until the timely intervention of people like Alhaji Quadri, who sought to unravel the knotty issues.
The Akoka CDA Chairman further emphasized that the virile mandate of the CDA is more than providing infrastructural development to the community like street lights, roads, boreholes, etc but also to empower residents in the community by giving support to education and providing employment.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Abiru, popularly known as Wise Ken, remarked that he was amazed at the crop of people that were being given award in terms of their outstanding credentials and remarkable personality.
He said in other communities such people consider themselves as bourgeois and are less concerned about serving their community.
In a similar vein, The Youth Forum of the Akoka CDA unveiled the plan to hold a colloquium in recognition of the outstanding leadership traits of the Akoka CDA Chairman to celebrate his birthday.
The event was lively and colorful as the compere, Yomi Ojute, anchored the event to the admiration of the guests while the Footprint of David, coordinated by Seun from Ìlàje, Bariga, were also in attendance to spice the occasion with wonderful and colourful performance of songs and display.
