Barely six hours after men of the Nigerian Army invaded a police station in Minna, Niger State, six personnel of the Nigeria Air Force men stormed the Tudun Wada Police station in Minna and attacked officers and men on duty, injuring one of them in the head with a jack-knife.
The Police Public Relation Officer in Niger State, Richard Oguche, while briefing journalists at the Tudun Wada Police Station on Saturday, said that the NAF men were mobilised from the Minna Air Force Base by a serving officer in Kano.
Oguche, however, did not mention the name of the NAF officer.
According to him: “This afternoon, six Air Force men went to Tudun Wada Police Station and attacked officers and men on duty with jack knives and belts.”
He said trouble started on Friday night when policemen on duty at Tudun Wada area apprehended the brother to the NAF officer in question for violating an order banning the use of motorcycle in Minna from 7am to 7pm and impounded his motorcycle.
Oguche said instead of the Air Force officer to approach the police to settle the matter amicably when his brother, who was arrested with the motorcycle despite violating the law reported to him, he chose to mobilise some men from the NAF Base in Minna to go and beat up police officers and men on duty.
He said the attack was checkmated by police officers and men on duty and three out of the six Air Force men were arrested.
“The three men arrested are still with us,” Oguche added.
Air Commodore Sani A. Zakari, the Officer-in-Charge of the Minna Air Force Base, when contacted on telephone, told journalists to come for briefing on Monday because he was away in Enugu.
