The Lagos State Chapter of African Democratic Congress on Thursday said that its recent adoption by the Coalition for Nigeria movement had begun to project the party as the first and best choice for Nigerians.
Nkem Lemchi, Lagos State Chairman of ADC, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the party was witnessing influx of people coming for registration and declaring their interest to use the platform.
NAN reports that CNM is a political pressure group that came into being shortly after former President Olusegun Obasanjo called for the formation of such a group in his damning January 23 letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.
On May 10, the CNM decided to adopt ADC as its platform to work with others for bringing about desirable change in the Nigeria polity and governance.
Lemchi, who spoke against the backdrop of the adoption, said it had started projecting the party positively.
He said: “The way and manner politics is played in Nigeria has not allowed people to truly know about the ideology of the party which stands it out among others until now.
“The adoption has projected the party to a platform of being the first and best choice for the people in Lagos State and Nigerians in general.
“The party’s integrity, honesty of purpose and long standing welfare and ideology stands it out; it is this attribute that endeared the CNM adoption. I commend the two groups.’’
According to the chairman, the time for the party to win seats in many states, including Lagos, is ripe.
He said ADC was a grassroots-based political institution that was close to the people, the poor, average Nigerians, women and even the youth.
Lemchi stressed that the party was associated with charting course of family values, elimination of poverty and enthronement of decent egalitarian society, which he said attracted its adoption.
He called on men of wisdom and strong moral fibre to come in and be part of the change that the country truly desires.
The party chairman urged those coming in to ensure that they are faithful to the party’s ideals as well as to the Nigerian people in ensuring that ultimately, it is the will of the people prevails over personal and selfish pursuits.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure adequate preparation to conduct a free and fair election and to remain an unbiased umpire.
