With less than two weeks to the commencement of the Nigeria National League 2013/2014 season, the branded match balls promised by the leadership of the league board are now available in Abuja.
The NNL board, led by High Chief Emeka Inyama, had last year informed clubs that they will make use of customised match balls for the new season, which will kick-off on January 25, 2014.
This proposal was approved at the last NNL Annual Club Congress in Abuja.
The official match balls, which are available for collection at the secretariat of the league body, will be distributed on first come first serve basis.
Speaking on the newly introduced match balls, Inyama disclosed that only clubs who have paid up their counterpart fund will get the balls, which he said will be used for all NNL matches henceforth.
According to the former Abia State Commissioner for Sports, clubs are advised to collect the match balls to enable their players master the new balls before the kick-off of the league in less than two weeks.
“We appeal to the clubs to pay the agreed amount of money and pick up their balls so that their players can practice with them before the commencement of the new league season,” Inyama said.
The Nigeria Football Federation executive board member also said that the introduction of the branded match balls is part of the repositioning of the second tier league in line with the international best practices.
