Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajimogu, has advised Niger Deltans to be patient with the new NDDC Board to enable it implement its action plan for the region.
Uwajimogu gave the advice while speaking to newsmen shortly after a courtesy call on the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Christian Oboh, at the commission’s corporate headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
“It takes a while to implement policies. If we give them the desired patience and allow them do their work, they will be able to perform,” the speaker said.
He therefore cautioned Niger Deltans against engaging in tendencies, especially petition writing and blackmail, which are capable of distracting the new board.
He pleaded: “We can see that they are ready to make a change in the way the NDDC should be run. Let’s be careful the way we criticise the commission, allow them time.”
Uwajimogu solicited NDDC’s partnership in the execution of some people-orientated projects in the state.
Responding, Oboh restated the commission’s commitment towards the completion of all ongoing projects across the region.
“Mr. President has given us a directive to focus mainly on cleaning up of existing projects. We are in the process of getting our contractors back to site,” he said
On funds, the NDDC boss said: “We have provided enough funds for the projects. So between now and March, we will clean up a minimum of 59 projects. We don’t believe in grammar. We want our actions to speak for us.”
