Ifeanyi Ubah on Wednesday in Awka, Anambra State emerged the Labour Party governorship candidate for the November 16 Anambra State gubernatorial election.
Ubah was declared winner by the National Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, after a voice vote and raising of hands from the 1,137 delegates who participated in the primaries.
Nwanyanwu said that Ubah was the only aspirant who picked and returned his nomination form on schedule and was, therefore, a sole aspirant of the party for the governorship race.
He said that Article 24 of the party’s constitution allowed the selection of a candidate by acclamation, show of hands or through secret ballot.
The chairman urged the party’s members to go back home and work assiduously for the party and Ubah’s victory at the poll since the votes must count.
“What you have done now is democracy in action and who becomes the governor of Anambra State will be decided by Anambra people and nobody else,” he said.
Nwanyanwu urged the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Anambra State Government to allow the people to cast their votes, stressing that anything contrary would be resisted legally.
According to him, Anambra State people are tired as they want change and somebody who will give them good governance.
Ubah commended the party’s leadership and delegates who turned out to select him as the party’s flag bearer.
He assured them that he would give them quality governance and would not disappoint their trust in him to fly the party’s flag at the governorship election.
