The Nigerian equity market on Tuesday halted previous two trading sessions uptrend with a marginal dip of 0.05 per cent.
This is just as the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria retained the interest rate at 14 per cent.
The All-Share Index shed 13.83 points or 0.05 per cent to close at 26,217.54 in contrast with 26, 231.37 achieved on Monday.
Similarly, the market capitalisation lost N5 billion, representing a decline of 0.05 per cent, to close at N9.020 trillion compared with N9.025 recorded on Monday.
The dip was largely boosted by value depreciation recorded in some medium and large capitalised stocks such as 7Up, Zenith Bank, Nigerian Breweries, National Salt and UBA, among others.
NAN reports that 7UP shed N5.33 to close at N101.40 per share, while Nigerian Breweries trailed with a loss of N2 to close at N142.50 per share.
Zenith International Bank was down by 55k to close at N15.40 and NCR lost 41k to close at N7.71, while Custodian and Allied Insurance dipped 19k to close at N3.36 per share.
On the other hand, Nestle Nigeria led the gainers’ table, increasing by N29 to N740 per share.
Seplat Petroleum Development came second with a gain of N15 to close at N380 and Guinness appreciated by N2.50 to close at N71 per share.
UACN gained 81k to close at N17.13, while Stanbic IBTC increased by 66k to close at N16.80 per share.
Also, the volume of shares traded closed lower with an exchange of 187.70 million shares valued at N10.43 billion transacted in 3,055 deals.
This was against the 228.59 million shares worth N2.58 billion traded in 3,228 deals on Monday.
Seplat Petroleum Development was the most active stock for the day, exchanging 22.61 million shares worth N8.59 billion.
United Capital followed with 22.43 million shares valued at N74.06 million, while Transcorp traded 18.57 million shares worth N15.20 million.
FBN Holdings sold 18.23 million shares valued at N65.16 million, while Guarantee Trust Bank accounted for14.17 million shares worth N338.66 million.
