Tit bits from AMAA’s 10th anniversary

The Bayelsa State capital, Yenegoa, was a beehive of activities last weekend as actors, actresses and several other movie practitioners in their hundreds stormed the city for the much awaited 10th edition of the prestigious and foremost credible movie annual awards, the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
It was indeed a night of celebration and entertainment as the best in the movie sector in Africa were honoured with different awards, while showbiz stars such as Timi Dakolo, Bez, J Martins, Flavour, Edge, Ketshe and comedians like Buchi, Aproko and Funny Bone also added fun and style to the award night.
Leading the packs of the government functionaries was the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Real Admiral Jonah, who ably represented the state Governor, Seriake Dickson; former Governor of the state, Chief D. S. P. Alamieyeseigha; and few other top government officials from in and outside the state were also in attendance.

Peace Anyiam Osigwe to step aside as CEO
The brain behind the prestigious awards, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe has announced her exit from the academy.
Anyiam-Osigwe, in her opening remarks, said she will be stepping aside as the President of African Movies Academy Awards.
She said: “I remain sincerely grateful and humbled by this journey and as I hand over the wheel to the next driver of AMAA, I know in my heart that I have fought the good fight.
“As I exit this stage in my life, my prayers and wishes are all geared towards the realisation of an African film fund to ensure that we can tell our stories.
“I express my sincere thanks to all who have been a part of this tumultuous journey with me and ask the good Lord to bless you and yours on your various journeys through life.”

Special recognition for Amaka Igwe
The late veteran film maker, Amaka Igwe, was given a special recognition at the awards night.
Shortly before the kick-off of the event, a minute of silence accorded the movie icon for her immense contributions in no small measure to the industry.
Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, while reeling out Igwe’s achievements, said she died at a time she was highly needed at AMAA because she was part of the journey from the beginning.
She further said that Igwe died at a time she was about charting a course for an Igbo movie channel on African Magic.
“I believe she is not dead but lives,” Anyiam-Osigwe said.

Danny Glover’s major role at AMAA
American veteran actor, Danny Glover, was the Chairman 10th year Anniversary Committee of AMAA.
Glover’s presence, no doubt, added style and class to this year’s award.
So visible he was throughout the event, making sure everything goes according to the plan.
Glover, in his opening remarks, accorded Peace Anyiam-Osigwe with much respect to have sustained AMAA to an enviable height in the last 10 years.
The American in his further submission said noble and laudable initiatives needed to be sustained.
He said: “We need to ensure that AMAA’s vital contributions continue to grow in relevance and import.
“For this to happen, we need your support.
“This will ensure that the initiatives of AMAA, which includes training and empowerment of our young film makers, are sustained and expanded to benefit our teeming youths who are indeed in need of empowerment.

Rita Dominic’s breath taking outfit
Award winning Nollywood actress, Rita Dominic, was the cynosure of several eyes with her breath taking outfit at the awards night.
Dominic wore a black revealing evening gown.
So hot was Dominic that she was dragged out by J Martins to dance on stage while performing.
Recall that Dominic was a recipient of that AMAA awards as Best Actress of the year a couple of editions back.

Sworn enemies, Fiberesima and Chukwurah in surprise pleasantries
It seems the raging but silent feud brewing between the President of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima, and Nigeria’s seasoned actress, Clarion Chukwurah, has come to an end following a surprise exchange of pleasantries between the warring actresses.
The duo were spotted embracing each other with a smile.
Many were taken aback for a scene that looks a like movie script because they had been attacking each other over the AGN presidency and purported visit to President Goodluck Jonathan.
However, with this latest development, it seems they have sheathed their swords.

Timi Dakolo’s, Flavour’s impressive performances
Timi Dakolo and the Dance All star, Flavour, have been adjudged the best performers of the awards night.
The two notable acts held the audience spellbound for several hours, with the audience asking for more.
While Dakolo rocked the show with his special number at the middle of the event, Flavour rounded up the all night show with his popular single: Adanma.
This saw the CEO of AMAA, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, and few other celebrities trouping to the stage to dance.
