Three staff of Fidelity Bank have been arrested by the police for alleged conspiracy and theft.
The staff, whose identities are yet to be ascertained, are two contract workers and an accountant.
They were arrested on Thursday in Lagos following the theft of N400,000 from a customer’s cash deposit.
It was gathered from a reliable police source at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, where the case was reported, that the bankers collected about N3.5 million from the said customer but ended up keeping a part of it for themselves
The customer, who noticed the discrepancy in amount deposited and amount credited to his account, informed the manager of the branch.
This led to the arrest of the three workers, who were then handed over to the police.
One of those arrested, a female, was said to have collected the money from the customer after close of work but left the money in a locker.
She was said to have informed the account officer and another colleague about the money kept in the locker inside the banking hall.
Strangely, she told the police, that when she went back to retrieve the money from the locker the following day, she discovered that the money was less N400,000.
While the female banker has been released, the two male staff are still with the police.
