Governor Willie Obiano made the remarks while speaking on the sidelines of the just concluded United Nations Climate Change Conference tagged COP25 in Madrid Spain.

The organisers, The Future Project, said on Thursday in Lagos that a launch, which held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, saw Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, endorsing the prestigious Awards, which has been described as the “Nobel Prize for Young Africans”.

“The U.S. must recognize the direct impact that racism, xenophobia and intolerance have in promoting violence and in creating fear and instability in ethnic and religious minority communities,” said Ahmed Reid in a statement from UN headquarters in Geneva, titled: “Perpetuating racism perpetuates violence.”

SERAP also raised: “Concern over suppression of freedom of expression, attacks on journalists, bloggers, and human rights defenders by several state governments, as well as the intimidation and harassment of Amnesty International in Nigeria, including by a group of apparently paid protesters that continues to besiege the organization’s office in Abuja, preventing it from carrying out its activities, and giving the organization ultimatum to leave Nigeria.”
