The African Union Anti-Corruption Day is commemorated annually on the 11th of July as designated by African Union via the adoption of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC) in recognition of the vast progress in the war against corruption on the African continent and the need to reflect on the approaches to end the vice.
The Spokesperson for the ICPC, Azuka Ogugua, made this known in a statement she issued in Abuja on Sunday.
Prof. Owasanoye made this call on the sideline of the ongoing hybrid 54th Conference of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) taking place in Dakar, Senegal.

The Chairman of ICPC, Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday at the 3rd National Summit on Dimishining Corruption in the Public Service.
The Chairman of the ICPC, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, made this known at the opening of a two-day capacity building retreat for members of House of Representatives’ Committee on Anti-Corruption, and board members and directors of the Commission held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Chairman of ICPC, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye who made the disclosure during a meeting with the House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee Investigating the Operations of Real Estate Developers in FCT, said that the developer took the money without providing houses for its subscribers. He stressed that the Commission will always deploy its mandates against developers who took public funds with the promise to provide houses for public or civil servants without doing so.
Owasanoye said this in a statement by ICPC spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, on Wednesday in Abuja.
SERAP made the demand on Sunday in an open letter he sent to President Buhari on the infractions by the MDAs.
Prof. Owasanoye made this known during the visit of council members of the African Bar Association (AFBA) led by its President, Hanniba Uwaifo to the corporate headquarters of the ICPC recently.
The Chairman of ICPC, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, during a meeting with the Chairman and Board members of the CCB, observed that the secrecy that surrounds asset declarations by public and civil servants was aiding corruption.
The ICPC boss also disclosed that the Federal Government of Nigeria was currently reviewing legacy transactions in oil and gas, tax investments and the use of waivers in Nigeria in order to curb IFFs.
SERAP said: “These allegations are not part of the disclosure by the Auditor-General in other audited reports that N4.4 billion of National Assembly money is missing, misappropriated, diverted or stolen.”
SERAP said: “Any such investigation should establish whether public funds have been mismanaged, diverted or stolen in the guise of implementing the duplicated and mysterious projects. Anyone suspected to be responsible should face prosecution as appropriate, if there is sufficient admissible evidence, and any stolen public funds should be fully recovered.”
She said this at a Policy Dialogue on Corruption and Cost of Governance in Nigeria organised by the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), the training and research arm of ICPC at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The Chairman of the FCT Branch of UNILAG Alumni Association, Aliu Akoshile, stated this when he led a delegation of new executive committee members of the Association on a courtesy visit to the ICPC Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, SAN.
He made this known on Tuesday in Abuja while responding to questions from journalists at the end of a capacity building for ICPC investigators on investigating Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) held at the corporate headquarters of the Commission.
SERAP urged him to “direct Mr Malami and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to investigate why the Safe Schools Initiative, established to bolster security at schools in response to the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls has failed to stop frequent abductions of students, and to ensure the safety and security of Nigerian children in schools across the country.”
