This year’s edition will be headlined by Africa’s international leaders that include the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame; Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation; Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organisation; and Mr. Makhtar Sop Diop, Managing Director, International Finance Corporation.

I want to specially thank the African Union under the able leadership of our Chairperson, His Excellency, Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda and all African Leaders for entrusting me with the leadership responsibility of championing the African Union theme of the Year – “Winning the Fight Against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”.

Rwanda on Saturday freed Victoire Ingabire, an opposition leader, who had served six years of a 15-year jail term, after President Paul Kagame exercised his power to grant a pardon.

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, who is the current chair of the 55-member African bloc, and Moussa Mahamat, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, unveiled the plaque on the premises of the commission’s headquarters in Addis Ababa, marking the inauguration of the SAATM.
