A group, the Ndigbo Unity Forum, has told the Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji, to stop the attack on his predecessor, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu.
The group gave the warning after its emergency meeting in Onitsha, the commercial nerve centre of Anambra State, on Friday.
The warning comes as a result of the statements credited to Orji on Kalu during the burial of the Ikemba of Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
Orji was quoted as having said Odumegwu-Ojukwu did not want him to join the All Progressive Grand Alliance with Kalu.
Orji had been with the Progressive Peoples Alliance, the platform on which he won his first term mandate and which was founded by Kalu, until he joined the Peoples Democratic Party about three years into his first tenure.
The statement signed by the group’s President, Augustine Chukwudum, noted that all Orji said about Kalu were false, adding: “If Governor T.A. Orji had used another occasion to attack Chief Orji Uzor Kalu as he used to do, we would not have reacted, because we know that Governor Orji is an ungrateful human being.
“He instead used the burial of Ojukwu whom every Igbo person was mourning his death to insult his mentor.
“That is to show how bitter he is with Orji Uzor Kalu, a man who rescued him from death at the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over framed fraud allegation against him before the 2007 general election.”
The group thus advised that “the people of Umuahia should call Theodore Orji to order, and that the governor must stop using Chief Kalu as excuse for non-performance as governor for the past five years.”
