The Senate on Thursday passed a budget of N4,877,209,156,933 for the 2012 fiscal year.
This is an increase from the original N4.6 trillion sent to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan in December 2011.
The increase is to cover the newly-introduced SURE Programme that was introduced to provide succour for the increase in the price of petrol.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Ahmad Maccido, told newsmen that the budget covered the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation but does not include that of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The Senate spokesman, Senator Enyinaya Abaribe, said: “The CBN governor is hiding under the CBN Act but the Fiscal Responsibility Act stipulates that budgets from all government agencies should be scrutinised by the National Assembly.”
Abaribe said the problem with the CBN budget is a legal matter, which the National Assembly would tackle.
