Armed robbers on Monday killed seven persons and burnt down a bank in Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State during a night raid on Monday.
The robbers, who had attacked a police station in the town before proceeding to the bank, used dynamites in blowing open the doors of the bank.
Reports had it there were over 30 of them.
The police team in the town had to call for reinforcement from Owo when they engaged the robbers in a shootout that was reported to have lasted for over an hour.
It was only then that the police team was able to contain the onslaught of the robbers.
The robbers reportedly destroyed the Armoured Personnel Carrier of the police stationed in the town.
One of those who died during the robbery operation was a guard of one of the banks, simply identified as David.
The Ondo State Police Command spokesman, Adeniran Aremu, confirmed the incident.
