The Nigeria National League (NNL) new season kicked off on Saturday with Plateau United FC and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of Abuja winning their opening games.
A statement by Harry Awurumibe, the league’s Media Officer said on Sunday the home teams secured the maximum points in the first matches of the competition.
The statement said that in Jos, the home team, Plateau United FC showed class by thrashing visiting Yobe Desert Warriors 2-0 in a match that attracted large number of fans.
It said that the score line showed that the Bitrus Bewarang-led Plateau United management was determined to gain promotion to the elite division next season.
It, however, said that in Abuja, FRSC hammered Sokoto United 3-1 in another match played at the Old Parade Ground.The statement added that FRSC were in their element as they took the boys from Sokoto United to the cleaners at the end of the encounter with the visitors pulling only one goal back.
According to the statent, Jigawa Golden Stars FC of Dutse defeated Supreme Court FC of Abuja by a lone goal to claim the three vital points.
Kogi United FC and Spotlight FC played a 1-1 draw in Lokoja, a result which will boost the chances of the visiting team to aim for promotion. (NAN)
