Osinbajo on probe report: Despite SGF being my friend, we must do what is right

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said despite his friendship with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, he will do what is right in the case of alleged impropriety against the suspended SGF over a grass cutting contract.
Osinbajo said this on Wednesday after he submitted the report of a panel, which he headed, that probed Lawal and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ayo Oke, to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Lawal was accused of awarding a N200 million grass contract to a company in which he has interest under the Presidential Initiative on the North East.
Oke was probed over the role of the NIA in a N15 billion cash found in different currencies in a Lagos flat.
Speaking with newsmen after submitting the report to Buhari, Osinbajo refused to give any hint on the report.
He told newsmen who sought to known the content of the report: “It is s fact finding committee as you know and what our terms of reference were was to find out based on the fact available to us and based on the interviews of witnesses of what transpired in those cases of the report one involving the SGF and the other the DG of NIA. We have now concluded that and we submitted a full report with recommendations to the President.
“We cannot of course give you any kind of details because the President has to look at the report, study it and then make his own decisions based on that report.”
When asked if his friendship with Lawal will influence the outcome of the probe, Osinbajo said: “Well, as you can imagine, we are always fair minded and the whole approach is to ensure that justice is done in all cases.
“It is in the interest of the government and also the interest of the nation that things are done properly and that there is due process and that we are not unfair.
“You can be sure that we will do the right thing.”
Osinbajo said it was now left to Buhari to take a decision on the report of the panel.
He said: “All I can now say is that we have submitted the report to the President and it is a very detailed report as a matter of fact.
“The President has to study for he report and make decisions.”
When asked if heads will roll, Osinbajo responded: “No.

“If you want to know what is in the report you have to wait, you really have to wait.”
