Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has commiserated with the Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji MD Abubakar, on the death of the Deuty Inspector General of Police, “B” Department, John Haruna, in an helicopter crash.
In a condolence letter to the I-G, Oshiomhole said: “I received with the utmost shock and pain, news of the death of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. John Haruna, and other officers and men, who lost their lives in this (last) week’s helicopter crash.
“I offer the deepest condolence of the people and Government of Edo State and my personal commiseration to the officers and men of the Nigeria Police as well as the families of the victims of the crash. Our thoughts go out to the families and colleagues of DIG Haruna and the other gallant officers.
“DIG Haruna’s death is a big loss to the nation. He was well known to me as a seasoned professional, who meticulously built a solid reputation on integrity and fidelity to the highest standards of public service. On his current and previous postings, he projected a positive image for the Police, earning in the process wide public acclaim. Indeed, he was the quintessential officer and gentleman.
“The death of DIG Haruna would certainly be a great setback to the ongoing efforts to reposition the Police under your leadership. However, our supplication to God is to renew your resolve to give the nation a more befitting Force. In particular, we pray that God would comfort the families of the deceased and give them the fortitude needed to bear the loss.”
