One year in office: APC UK gives Buhari pass mark 

The All Progressives Congress in the UK has given President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration a pass mark on its one year in office.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the APC UK in London to mark the one year anniversary of the administration, the Vice Chairman, J. K. Adebola, gave the government thumbs up.

Adebola said it has managed to make some significant strides against all odds.

Speaking further, he said: “Despite the fact that the administration took over the mantle of leadership of Nigeria at a time its revenue has been pilfered by the previous administration consequent upon which its economy has been left in comatose or a state akin to a patient in an Intensive Care Unit, the present administration has managed to deliver on two of its three-pronged campaign manifesto on security and corruption.

“Delivery on the economy is still work in progress but the government is on the right path in ensuring the economy is revived hence its resolve to diversify by moving away from our reliance on oil revenue.”

The party added that the wind of change that blew out the light of the kleptomaniac government of the Peoples Democratic Party and ushered in this administration last year brought with it high expectations from Nigerians who have been subjected to decades of misrule and blatant rape of its economy.

It said this meant that all odds were already stacked against the new administration right from its inception.

Adebola said: “The achievements of this administration within the last 12 months are many though the result of some of the achievements are yet to be felt by the common man on the street, but the fact remains that in the next few months, some of it will begin to take effect and will permeate all strata of the country.

“Some of the achievements of this administration which gave the indication that its first priority was laying the foundation for a stable economy are: the decimation of the insurgency, the revamping of EFCC and ICPC resulting in the effectiveness of the anti-corruption crusade, the NNPC reforms, implementation of UNEP report and the Presidential order on the clean-up of Ogoniland, revamp of the Niger Delta amnesty program through proper verification of beneficiaries and payment of funds, implementation of the Treasury Single Account and a host of others.”

The party added that though the above mentioned are few of the achievements of this administration so far, the fact remains that there are still a lot to do, especially in improving the lot of average Nigerians through gainful employment, provision of basic infrastructures etc.

It said: “The next 12 months are crucial for this administration because people are becoming apprehensive and impatient – a situation that is borne out of the damage that has been done to our collective psyche by many years of misrule and mismanagement. This administration therefore needs to put in place policies that will produce a discernible effect on the lives of the common man.”

The party chieftain concluded by advising President Buhari to stand by his words in his public statement to Nigerians in April 2015 titled: “My Covenant,” in which he promised to provide essential leadership that will cater for security, employment, health, security, etc.
