A member of the Governance Advisory Council of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, Muraina Taiwo, has criticised the process leading to the removal of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
He was removed on January 13 by a majority of lawmakers over allegations of misconduct, abuse of office and financial misappropriation.
He was replaced by former deputy speaker Mojisola Meranda.
At the time of his removal, the former speaker was away in the United States.
Obasa returned to Lagos on Saturday and denied the corruption allegations, insisting that due process was not followed.

Taiwo, in a statement obtained on Wednesday, described Obasa’s removal as illegal and disrespectful to the party leadership.
He noted that the situation had caused divisions within the GAC and called for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention.
“The act of the lawmakers is illegal. It shows total disregard and clear disrespect for leadership.
“The GAC leadership is split over the matter but we will all defer to our de facto leader, the President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resolve the crisis,” Taiwo said.
His statement follows similar remarks from GAC member Senator Anthony Adefuye who recently described Obasa’s removal as unlawful, agreeing that the process was flawed.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State House of Assembly has stated that it expects Obasa to resume before deciding on its next course of action, which could include a formal probe.
