Ikorodu City FC on Sunday held Enyimba International FC to a 1-1 draw after coming from behind in a tense Nigeria Premier Football League Match Day 6 fixture.
The Mobolaji Johnson Arena saw the “Oga Boys” on Sunday battle the experienced Peoples Elephant, who arrived as current league leaders.
Enyimba struck first in the opening minutes when a defensive mix-up forced an own goal by Joel Ezra after goalkeeper Joseph Atata strayed off position.
Ikorodu City equalised in the 17th minute through Joseph Arumala, whose left-footed curler beat the Enyimba defence and caught the goalkeeper unprepared.
Both teams wasted chances as the match ended in a stalemate, denying either side maximum points in spite of a lively display from both sets of players.
Ikorodu City’s Technical Adviser, Bright Ozebagbe, praised his team’s spirit, noting the challenge of facing the nine-time champions while commending his players’ response after conceding early.
Ozebagbe said: “We respected Enyimba.
“They made it tough.
“The boys fought back with a great goal but missed chances cost us.
“I credit their effort.”
Enyimba’s Technical Adviser, Stanley Eguma, said a draw in Lagos was acceptable, while applauding Ikorodu City for their resilient performance against his side.
