Akwa United held Sunshie Stars to a goalless draw in an exciting Glo Premier League Week 29 fixture played at the Akure Stadium on Sunday.
Both sides treated the fans with quality display of football but first half ended in barren scores with Sunshine Stars wasting more scoring chances.
Sunshine, however, got a chance to take the lead in the first minute of the second half after a goal-bound Prince Agreh was brought down by an Akwa United player inside the penalty box. But captain Abe Sunday played into the waiting hands of goalkeeper Victor Obiowo.
Three minutes later Adeniyi Tunde wasted another opportunity to put the hosts in front as he shot across the goalmouth from close range.
Sunshine continued to mount pressure on the visitors but a moment of madness saw defender Eze Stephen red-carded after he head-butted Akwa United player.
Try as Sunshine did, Akwa United defended stoutly to run away with a vital point from the encounter. Both sides played out 2-2 scores in the first stanza of the season at the Uyo Township Stadium.
Elsewhere, El-Kanemi drew one-all with Sharks, Kaduna United defeated Gombe United 3-0, Dolphins beat Nasarawa 2-1, Crown FC held Nembe City to one-all draw, just as Rangers piped FC Taraba by a lone goal.
